Researchers at Hebrew University and Bar-Ilan University revealed that men talk more about facts and women talk more about emotions in intimate relationships. The study is published in the journal Symbolic Interaction.

The Study

The researchers collected and surveyed data from eleven samples of Israeli men and women. The research methodology comprised observations, “hidden” observations, interviews, and content analysis to understand gender differences in language and emotions.

The Findings

The results revealed that men and women communicate differently. While men talk more about things and facts, women talk more about people. Moreover, with differences in communication styles, they also harbor different purposes for communication.

Men communicate to convey information, solve a problem, or get things done. Women, on the other hand, communicate to build and maintain relationships, as well as to generate and share creative ideas.
