Both Bates and Gein, horrifically, also practiced taxidermy with the remains of their victims. In fact, chair covers, lampshades, and clothing made from human skin were found on Gein’s property after his arrest.
However, Hitchcock spiced up his iconic serial killer for a Hollywood audience with attributions of dissociative identity disorder, Oedipus complex, and paraphernalia —psychological dimensions unrelated to Gein.
