A recent study by a group of researchers has reported that patients with dementia are likely to suffer from an increased risk due to COVID-19. A retrospective case-control analysis was conducted on 61.9 million adults and senior patients in the United States, using patient electronic health records. The main objective of this study was to examine the risk, disparity, and outcomes of COVID-19 in patients with dementia.

According to the results, the strongest effect was observed in vascular dementia, followed by presenile dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, senile dementia, and posttraumatic dementia. In patients with dementia and COVID-19, six-month mortality and hospitalization risks were nearly as high as 20.99% and 59.26%, respectively.
